Selectboard Minutes - January 29, 2008
Selectboard Special Meeting Minutes
January 29, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m.
Present: Richard L. Johnson, Vern Stone, Sydney Veysey
Bob Hodge, Naomi LaBarr
Guests: Debra Kingsbury
The petitioned article for tax exemption for Vershire Fire & Rescue's new parcel was discussed. The apartment and old fire station now rented out were discussed. It was noted that the town would have to make up the lost education taxes for the apartment and old fire station if a total exemption was voted. An amendment to the article was discussed and would be allowed at Town Meeting. The Selectboard agreed to put the exact wording as petitioned on the Town Meeting Warning.
Costs for a new ton truck were discussed. Bob recommended purchasing a truck with a side dump for safety and efficiency. Trade-in of the old truck was reviewed. The Selectboard agreed to stay with the regular dump body to save money. The truck funding will be requested from the Capital Equipment Fund and the surplus from the Highway Fund.
It was noted that the Recreation Council did not get their petition in on time for funding. The Selectboard agreed to include this funding request to support the Rivendell children's' activities.
The cost of the salt shed was discussed and will be broken out in the town report.
The Selectboard set Sunday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. for the Information Meeting for Australian Ballot articles.
Richard made a motion to sign the warning. Vern seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Separation of the Town Clerk's salary from the Treasurer's salary was discussed. The Selectboard will not break it down in the 2007 town report, and noted that if anyone is interested in running for either position next year, they should talk to the Selectboard about a starting salary next January.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
